Reinvigorating Family Connections: Meet Anne Harjar

Staying in touch with family who may live far from you can be a challenge, but speaking with loved ones living in senior communities can feel almost impossible. How can you share photos, send texts to check in, or do a casual video call with an elder who may not know how to use a smartphone or may even have limited mobility? 


The Danbury Senior Living Community committed to solving those challenges by partnering with Caavo. Once installed, Caavo automated processes for staff, allowed seniors to have better control over the television, and granted families an easier way to communicate.


What we didn’t expect was the major impact Caavo would have on one family who has been struggling to visit and speak with their loved one for years. 


Introducing Anne.


Anne Harjar, fondly known as Nonnie, is absolutely beloved by her entire family. She's lived at Danbury for over a year and was recently moved to the Memory Care unit after a second stroke, which has left her bedridden, with aphasia and unable to have full use of her arms. 


With all of Anne’s family residing out of state, communicating with her has been extremely challenging and, we'd imagine, disappointing for everyone. They’d rely on people visiting Anne to set up a FaceTime with the family, which was far and few in between. "To say this has been sad, frustrating, and very limited is an understatement!”, said Anne’s daughter, Margaret.


Caavo Saves the Day


After searching for a solution that would allow the entire family to speak with their Nonnie, while relieving Anne of having to use complex technology, they turned to Caavo.


“A couple of months ago, I received information from you about your service…I put it in a pile to look at later, thinking it wouldn’t be helpful to us because Mom is unable to operate anything. Recently, I investigated this and only now wished I had done so earlier!”, Margaret shared. 


Now with the Caavo system installed on Anne’s TV, and the family utilizing the Caavo Connect app, they can stay in touch on a daily basis! Margaret opened up to us how Caavo has really made communicating with her mom a simple process, free of the headaches the family faced earlier.


“The ease of use of the CAAVO app is incredible. Through this video calling app, now we can ‘barge in” to connect with Mom whenever we want. We can even send pictures! Our large extended family and friends are ecstatic!” 


Connected At Last


With the help of Caavo, Anne is a part of her family’s daily lives again, despite living states away. Even her grandchildren and pastor are looking to connect to the Caavo app so they can spend a few moments with their cherished Nonnie.
